There is a flashback, about the beginning of the end. it says that the clocked stopped at 1:17, there was a long shear of light and then a low concussion. The father went to the bathroom, he turned on the light but the power was already gone and he began to fill up the bath tube. The mother asks why hes taking a bath but all he says is that he isn't.We have learned much more about the mother in the story. It turns out that she just leaves them. She says she has to because they will rape them and kill them. We don't know who "them" are yet. The son doesn't say a word about. Back to the present, the father and son were both sleeping when the father woke up and heard truck sounds. He wakes up the boy and they stay still watching them. There's a couple of them walking with the truck. Ones wearing bio hazard suits and others are wearing masks. They were hiding for awhile trying not to be seen. Then when the father looked up, one of them was walking towards him. He was un-belting his pants when they both saw each other. The father pointed the gun right at him and told him to come towards them and not to say a word. The father asked questions but the man answered with questions. The man then quickly took his knife, rolled grabbing the son and putting the knife up against the boys neck. By the second he stood up the father had already shot the man in the middle of the forehead and killed him. He grabbed the boy and ran like hell. No one came looking for them. They camped under a bridge that night and made a fire. When they set out again the came to a ravine that over looked a city. They could see smoke coming off a building, the boy was scared again. Hes always nerves about the bad guys. He always asks the dad to make such that their still the good guys. As they went though the city, they looked though some houses looking for food but they didn't find anything. They heard a dog right before dusk and the boy really wanted to take him with but the father said no. They spent the night in a car under an overpass. They never heard the dog again. They awake to rain and stayed for away. They walked for days, then one day they woke up and the father saw people coming down the street. It was like a mini army, some with chains, others with spears. behind them was wagons drawn by slaves in harness and piled with goods of war. Then the women after that, about a dozen of them, a few were pregnant. They went by without seeing them. After awhile they began to move again. It started to snow and in a little bit there was about half a food. They took cover under some cedar. They slept there for the night. The father awoke to hear what sounded like bombs. The snow was so heavy it was bending all the died trees down. Trees were tipping over left and right, he took the boy and ran. They couldn't see anything, it was liking running around with your eyes close. They made it out safe. They walked for the next few days, their feet were getting soaked from all the snow. The boy then saw people coming down the road. They quickly ran into the woods, the people didn't see them but they were bad guys. They later came upon a big brick house. All the windows were weirdly intact. There was a string going across the front step and into the window. The boy became very scared. The father opened the door. In the living room there were cots and shoes and a fireplace with coals in it and pots around it. They searched the house looking for food. They when into the pantry, there wasn't any food but a strange latch on the floor. There was a large padlock on it though. So the father went and found something like a pybar to break the lock. The lock broke and he lifted the latch. It was really dark, so he used his lighter as a light. Coming down the stairs there was an ungodly smell. The light revealed a line of naked males and females lined up against the way. There was a person laying on a mattress and his leg and hip missing (thats what make the terrible smell). They all started saying help us! help us! The father just kept saying O' Jesus Christ. He threw his son up the stairs and ran up. Then while the father is closing the latch the son point to the window. There four big beard men with two women coming towards the house, the bad guys. The father and son ran as fast as they can out of the house and down the driveway and into the woods across the street. The father gave the gun to the boy. He was going to go distract the bad guys if they came and have the boy kill himself. They laid there and laid there looking at the house. The boy was terrified. The whole time watching the father had to cough but couldn't cause he didn't want to be seen and also the boy was hold on of his hands and his other hand was on the gun. The bad guys never did end up coming but the boy and father stayed there for the night. During the night the father heard the most bone chilling screams he has ever heard. He covered the boys eyes while he slept. The next morning, was that 5th day they had gone without eating anything. So while the boy slept the father went out looking for food. From where they were he could see a barn way off in the distance. He went there searching for food. He didn't find any food but he found a tank of run off water. He removed all the filters and ended up getting a couple jars of water. As he was walking about he stepped on something. It was an apple. It was all black and had no flavor but it was something to eat. So he got as much as he could for him and the boy and eat that. Later on they went back to walking trying to figure out where they were. They came upon another later on. They went threw it and there was nothing. In the back there was a shed. In the Shed there wasn't anything much just old motor oil and a lawn mower. Then walking about he found something. It turned out to be another latch. After digging it out, he opened it. Inside was a bunker filled with canned food, a bathroom, stove, cots, clothes blankets and soap. They spent like 5 days there. The boy got to eat food he never ate before like peaches and coffee. They look bathes and cut their hair. They even went into town and got a new cart. They had to leave though because the father thought it wasn't safe. So they left and set out for the coast again. There about 200 miles away. On their way they run into a 90 year old man, who is very surprise to see a kid. The boy convinces the father to give him food and the spends the night with them. The man is weird though and keeps lying to the father.
The story has gotten a lot better! Its not just talking about the surroundings anymore. They have seen a lot more people but most of them were the bad guys. There getting closer to the coast though which is good. Im nerves for the father because of his coughing up blood. I really hope nothing happens to the boy, like the bad guys taking him away. I didn't mention in the summary but the bad guys eat humans. The boys gets really scared. I hope this guy that they just met doesn't take stuff from them and run off with it. I really couldn't believe that the mom just left them. It was by far the most depressing part of the book. I like how the author touched on how everything ended but without really telling how. So its just kind of up to the reader to pick a way. I really cant wait to keep reading which is weird cause I don't really like reading a lot. I do it for school but not in my free time. But this book makes me read in my free time.

I'm reading The Road by Cormac McCarthey. The Book is about a father and son and their battle to survive after the whole world has turned to ash. So far the book as not said what has caused this darkness. The man and hes son are trying to move south where it is warmer. They can't stay in the north any longer because they wouldn't survive the another winter. The book constantly is describing the surroundings. The world has turned to ash. There is no more color in the world. All the trees are burnt down, the river run black, the precipitation is all gray and everything has a layer of ash on it. The man and hes son don't have anything. They push a cart with only food, a trap to cover themselves at night, a lantern, a pistil and a blanket. They also have small backpacks to carry the essentials in case they ever have to leave the cart. The story so far is just what they encounter on they trip south. The father and son have stopped at the house where the father grew up. The son got very scared being in there. When they were going over the mountains they swam in a small lake under a waterfall. Here and there the father talks about the dreams he has. Most of the dream he has are about a girl. The father also talks about how when the darkness first happened, that all the people would where face masks because the ash was so bar. So far on their trip south they have only encountered one person. When they saw him he was all black, clothes, hair, face. The father told the boy that he was struck my lightning. The boy really want to help him but the father wouldn't let him because they had nothing to give him. At this point they are getting really low on food. The boy was really upset and started to cry.
So far I really enjoy the book. When I start reading it i have a hard time putting it down. That's weird for me because I'm not a big fan of reading books. It really open your eye to how nice you have things. It can get really depressing at times. For one the father says a few times, "could I do it, if it came down to it?" and this is when he is watching his little boy sleep. What i think he is talking about is if things ever became really bad, could he ever kill him and his son. Which is really a depressing thought that things got that bad. Which means that he has a very large effect on the main character, the father. The Man has really weird dreams. I'm really not sure what they represent. I think the girl is his wife and that she maybe died but other times he dreams of leaving her. At the begin of the story he talks about him and hes son going into a cave and finding a ancient lake. He then looks across the lake and sees a monster. I believe it could be foreshadowing but I'm not really sure. The book is a little slow though. A lot of the story is describing what the surroundings look like. It paints a really good picture in your head what things look like but there isn't much dialog. The dialog between the boy and father is very proper. It's always very complete sentences. I am really enjoying the book so far. I always have to turn the page because I can't wait to know what happens next.
